I was born and raised in Rockford, IL and was brought up going to art shows, flea markets and auctions. As a result, I began collecting unusual and vintage items - which I incorporate into the pieces I create. My husband John and I have two girls – Molly and Sadie.
My work I am a self taught, mixed media artist who is fascinated by old pieces of wood, metal, and advertising ephemera. I primarily work with acrylic paint on wood and canvas. My approach to creativity is whimsical with a childlike perception, combining shapes, colors and designs to transform the old and ordinary into something truly extraordinary and fun. Due to the nature of my materials, the finished pieces are not meant to be perfect. The bumps and bruises serve by adding to the individuality. John and I collaborate on some of the pieces. Each piece is one of a kind.
Accomplishments Over the years, I have exhibited at many art shows and have won numerous awards. My pieces can be found throughout the U.S. I was recently asked to pant a 6’ fiberglass “sock monkey” which is currently on display at the Midway Village + Museum Center in Rockford, IL. (see photo) The theme is “Cheap Trick”. My brother Tom, bass player for the group, gave me one of his guitars to use in the piece.
Custom Pieces Most of my pieces are sold at shows and via the web. However, I also create commissioned works. Whether resurrecting something of yours and turning it into art, or creating a custom piece, I always enjoy the process of providing people with art that is tailored to their individual taste and application. Contact me by phone or email for more information.
